At the 33rd Meeting of the Women’s Sports Medicine held at Jikei University School of Medicine on November 30, “The awareness and fact-finding survey on sanitary items for female athletes/para athletes” presented by Deputy Director Natsue Koikawa (Professor Faculty of Health and Sports Science, Juntendo University) was elected as the “Excellent Presentation Award”! This research was carried out by the Japanese Center for Research on Women in Sport as the “Development and Support Project for Female Athletes” which was an entrusted assignment by the Japan Sports Agency (2017, 2018), and became the research basis for the development of sanitary items.
Deputy Director Natsue Koikawa, the lead author of the award-winning presentation, said, “Up until now, the current status and issues regarding sanitary items for Japanese female athletes and para-athletes were not clarified, but the results of this survey revealed that more than half of the people surveyed felt that sanitary items cause their performance to decrease. I hope that sanitary items suitable for various sports will be developed soon, leading to an improvement in the competitive environment for female athletes and para-athletes.”
Japanese Center for Research on Women in Sport takes this prestigious award sincerely and will continue to promote research that is useful in the field of sports.
