August 7th (Wed)-9th (Fri), 2019, at Juntendo University Hongo – Ochanomizu Campus, the Asian Association for Sport Management (AASM), the Japanese Association for Sport Management (JASM), and Juntendo University’s Japanese Center for Research on Women in Sport (JCRWS) Co-sponsored the ” Asian Association for Sport Management Conference 2019 (AASM2019)”!
Due to the fact that the Director of Etsuko Ogasawara was the AASM President, the Women’s Sports Research Center served as the secretariat for the conference at this academic gathering, and was responsible for all operations in regard to the student staff from Juntendo University School of Sport and Health Sciences, and International Liberal.

“Women in Sport at AASM2019” Session
Opening Address, Dr. Daichi Suzuki
On the morning of the 8th, the opening of the conference, a session on “Women in Sport” was held by the Japanese Center for Research on Women in Sport. As an opening session, it was made available to the general public. Approximately 350 attendees filled the venue from the general public and conference members.
After the opening address by Dr. Masafumi Yoshimura, the director of Sports and Health Sciences, Juntendo University, Dr. Suzuki Daichi Sports Agency Director gave the opening lecture. In line with the main theme of the academic conference, “Contribution to the #SDGs through Sport Management in Asia” he gave a lecture about the efforts to achieve SDGs using sports with the subtheme of social contribution through sports.

The in the keynote lecture, Marisol Cassado IOC Gender Equality Review Project Head spoke about the 25 actions the IOC is taking to enhance gender equality in all Olympic movements.
During the following symposium, “Women in Sport for Asia”, Hirokazu Kumekawa International Director of the Sports Agency gave a lecture on the initiatives and future issues that are being pursued to promote women’s sports participation. The symposium also had a lecture by two female leaders representing Asia.
After that, a panel discussion was organized and mediated by Aya Noguchi from the Japanese Center for Research on Women in Sport Researcher (Assistant of the Department of Sports and Health Science). This panel was a very useful session for the development of women’s sports in Asia.

Throughout the “AASAM 2019 Conference”
The first day started with a bus tour of the Tokyo 2020 Games. Divided into four large buses, about 120 participants were guided by student staff from the Faculty of Sports and Health Sciences and the College of International Liberal Arts. Based on the pamphlets and the picture-story-style guides that I created, I produced a wonderful tour guide in English that I had practiced.

At the closing ceremony, 10 “Outstanding Abstract Awards” were presented for outstanding research presentations, and 3 awards were also awarded from Japan. In addition, a letter of thanks was presented to JASM and the Japanese Center for Research on Women in Sport, co-sponsored by AASM2019, with praise from Dr. Etsuko Ogasawara, the president of AASM, for the wonderful management of the conference. In addition, a presentation was made from Thailand, the host country of the next academic conference (AASM2020), saying “We will be waiting in Thailand next year”.
At the last farewell party, researchers from various Asian countries exchanged complements with their faces full of smiles. Various events produced by the Asian Association for Sport Management Conference were held, and the venue was surrounded by laughter.

For the first time, the Japanese Center for Research on Women in Sport served as the executive committee secretariat of an international conference. Importantly, we acknowledge the collaboration with the university’s student staff which was highly appreciated, and give great praise to all participants in Asian sports management societies. The event finished with great success.
