JCRWS International Symposium 2019
The Japanese Center for Research on Women in Sport (JCRWS), which is now in its 6th year of operation, has made a new start by expanding the range of their research fields and the age of subjects. On September 16th, the JCRWS’s presentation for the previous year’s research was held together with the keynote speeches from two overseas experts on women’s sports and physical activities. These keynote speeches covered topics about women of all ages in new research fields. All of this together created the ” JCRWS International Symposium 2019″.
Opening Address
At the opening of the conference, Mari Kitaide, Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology, who has served as the Deputy Director since the establishment of the Japanese Center for Research on Women in Sport, was on stage. The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology’s Strategic Research Foundation Support Project (Research on Condition Management for Female Athletes), which has been ongoing for five years since 2014, started by promoting new research and welcoming the women’s sports and physical activity keynote speakers. They also expressed their appreciation for the symposium.

A keynote Speech entitled “The Nexus of Gender, Aging and Exercise” was given by Professor Elizabeth Pike of Hertfordshire University in the UK. She has been conducting joint research with Juntendo University’s Japanese Center for Research on Women in Sport since January 2019. Professor Pike is focused on improving the opportunities for seniors and women to participate in sports. She elaborated on “Health Japan 21 (Secondary)” and continued on to talk about the current state of senior’s physical activity in Japan. She also said that for women, physical activity is beneficial for alleviating postmenopausal side effects (such as menopause) and for finding one’s purpose in life.
Keynote Speech Ⅱ
Dr. Yuhei Inoue of Manchester Metropolitan University gave a keynote Speech entitled “The Role of Fitness Club Identification in Promoting Older Women ’s Well-Being”. During the commentary about the relationship between healthy aging and physical activity, we presented the results of a survey conducted on members of a women’s fitness club chain in Japan. According to the report, not only can physical health be obtained through physical activities at the facility, but also the act of employees approaching individual members seemingly promotes mental health.

Products Created by JCRWS
We displayed our products such as printed materials on the desk in the venue. The JCRWS creates at least one product every year and we are glad that those are being used by many female athletes, leaders, and guardians.
