The recipient of the “2017 Society Award” was announced at the 29th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Clinical Sports Medicine which was held in Sapporo from November 2nd to 3rd. “The height increase of female athletes correlates with the annual weight increase just before growth peak -Consideration of Japanese female athletes to grow taller-a“, joint research conducted by Nishibeppu National Hospital and Japanese Center for Research on Women in Sport as a project commissioned by the Japan Sports Agency (2014, 2015), was selected as the award-winning research.
Co-author Natsue Koikawa, a Senior Associate Professor at Juntendo University Faculty of Health and Sports Science, attended the award ceremony on behalf of Dr. Takao Matsuda (Nishibeppu National Hospital Sports Medicine Center and the Head of Gynecology) who is the lead author of the award-winning paper and said “It is an honor to receive such an award and I was able to gain confidence that the results of our research and study aimed for strategically strengthening female athletes were recognized. Big thanks to the 140 female athletes who cooperated for the data collection.”
